5Why can’t I play the card I selected?
You must follow the suit led whenever you hold a card from that suit. If the card cannot legally be played, choose another card from the required suit.
Why can’t I lead a spade?
Spades normally must be broken before they can be led. If spades have not been broken and you still hold a non-spade card, lead another suit.
How is our bid calculated?
Your team contract is the sum of your bid and your partner’s bid. The partnership must win at least that many tricks to score the contract.
What is a bag?
A bag is a trick won beyond your team contract. It adds one point to the hand, but ten accumulated bags trigger a 100-point penalty. Your current bag total should be considered when deciding whether to take an unnecessary trick.
How does a Nil bid work?
A Nil bidder must avoid taking every trick. A successful Nil earns 100 points and a failed Nil loses 100 points. The partner’s regular bid remains part of the team contract, and tricks taken by the Nil bidder can still affect the partnership total and bags.
